I
have always loved to look at beautiful things. I believe they
all have something to say, but I never imagined creating them myself
until recently when someone said, "If God has given you a gift
and you don't do anything with it, what are you telling God
about that
gift?" I've drawn and done crafts with my children and grandchildren.
But I have never painted for the sheer joy of painting until
now...and now I can't stop. I guess I'm a late bloomer. I'm
mostly self-taught
and recently I've started taking as many classes as I can,
in color theory, watercolor portraiture, and impressionism.
With the love
and support (and financial backing) of my husband, the encouragement
of my family, in April of 2008 I took a leap of faith and set
up a studio so I can paint and be in the company of wonderful
artists
who have given me advice and pats on the back (and hugs). I
will forever be in their debt. My husband of forty years and
I have lived
on one boat or another for the past nineteen years. We have
traveled extensively until we grew "grandparent roots." Now
we live and play in Portsmouth, VA. I don't know why God picked
this time in
my life
to bring out the gifts he has given me, but I'm not going to
argue, I'm just going to paint.
