Kathryn was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, January 13, 1960. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, restaurants, universities, medical schools and banks since 1985. She moved to Hawaii in 1996 and established her art on the islands of Oahu and Kauai. She exhibited her art on the famous, “Honolulu Zoo Fence,” where she sold her art to tourists from all over the world.

Kathryn has been an artist since the age of seven. She graduated from Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina with a bachelors degree in fine art and a certification to teach kindergarten through twelfth grade. She taught art both privately and publicly for eight years.

She feels fortunate to have been mentored by the late Joseph Wallace King, the famous portrait artist, better known abroad as, “Vinciata.” King was a tough critic and few artists could take his blunt advice. She enjoyed him because he was to the point. She also loved his quick wit. He taught her until his death January 15, 1996. King was best know for his painting of Queen Elizabeth II, in 1972 and his portraits of other dignitaries.

Kathryn is influenced by the great Impressionists and has followed their style and technique in her work. Her favorite medium is soft pastel; although she enjoys exploring and painting in a wide variety of mediums. She paints many different subjects and often lets the subject dictate her choice of medium.

She believes that, “Artist’s should capture scenes that hold special meaning in some way to both the artist and the viewer.” Kathryn is best know for her tropical florals and scenes of the Hawaiian Islands. Her work can now be seen on the Internet and at Olde Towne Art, Portsmouth, Virginia.
